Orthodontic Surgery
Cavalancia Orthodontics is committed to providing the best orthodontic care possible. To patients of all ages, we offer many options for attaining a beautiful and healthy smile. While many orthodontic issues can be rectified with braces or invisible aligners, corrective orthodontic surgery is sometimes required. We take the utmost care in diagnosis, preparation and treatment to ensure you receive full functionality and fantastic results.
When Surgery Is an Ideal Solution
Naturally, a great-looking smile helps boost confidence and self-esteem. Yet orthodontics involved far more than that. Your teeth and jaws work together to help you eat, drink and speak. These underlying structures are comprised of a sophisticated network of bones, soft tissues and ligaments. Orthodontics focuses on treating problems with teeth alignment and jaw positioning.
In many cases, correcting these issues requires an orthodontic appliance. Braces and invisible aligners place gentle pressure on each tooth, causing the surrounding bone and periodontal ligaments to shift and allow the tooth to change position. However, surgery may be needed to address craniofacial skeletal abnormalities or severe bite problems. These can have several causes:
- Unusual growth patterns in the face or skull
- Significant injuries
- Birth defects
- Undesirable habits such as thumb sucking or tongue thrusting
Any of these can result in chewing problems, speech difficulties, chronic pain and self-consciousness from one’s appearance.
How Orthodontic Surgery Works
At Cavalancia Orthodontics, our process begins with an initial consultation, dental exams and other diagnostic tools such as X-rays and digital 3D imaging. Once one of our doctors have studied these results, we present and help you evaluate your available treatment options.
We collaborate with local orthognathic surgeons to give you top-notch treatment with stellar results. Depending on the issue that needs correction, your surgery may reshape the bones in your face, lengthen or shorten jawbones, reposition your jaw or remove problematic internal structures. We help with preparation, recovery and aftercare with oral care instructions, dietary suggestions and necessary medications to aid in healing.
