After the completion of orthodontic treatment, retainers are used to help hold and retain the final position of the teeth. Retention is perhaps the most important part of orthodontic treatment. Retainers come in a variety of styles and types, with some more suited for different occlusions. Removable retainers are easily inserted and worn comfortably.

They come in a few distinct styles: clear Essix retainers and Hawley retainers made of metal and acrylic material, as well as bonded retainers that are attached to the backside of upper and lower front teeth to hold their positions.
